Labor and Delivery

Brian and I had a great time visiting with family and friends this holiday. Brian got to relax and recharge over break, which he really needed.

We attended our first Labor and Delivery class this Saturday, and it was very helpful. Our instructor is an RN who has been working in labor and delivery for over 30 years, and she takes a very holistic approach to childbirth. She really encourages couples to stay home for early labor so that they aren't spending 30 hours in the hospital just waiting (unless there is something else going on that indicates you should go in). She also gave us some great ways to move around and help things progress. Even if they don't make things go 'faster' - they help to give you a sense of purpose that makes it all easier to bear. She also said that a lot of how your mother was during labor and delivery will be reflected in your experience.

I talked to my dad a little last night and he said that for the oldest, my mom was in labor at the hospital about 12 hours.

We haven't had time to explore the textbook as much as we would like, but we are looking forward to reading it this week. We finally get to tour the birthing center next week!
